What and where in Denmark? Officially known as the Kingdom of Denmark, this country is located in the Scandinavian region of northern Europe. The country is bordered by Denmark in the South, Sweden in the North East, and Norway to the North. The Baltic and North Sea also border the country. Many islands also make up the country, including the islands of Jutland, Zealand, Funen, Lolland, Falster and Bornholm. Many of these larger islands are connected via bridges. The Faroe Islands and Greenland are also autonomous provinces of Denmark with home rule.
Denmark`s climate is temperate- this means that the Winters are not particularly cold and the Summers are cool. It is a windy country, with stronger winds during the Winter than the Summer.
Denmark runs under a constitutional monarchy. The Monarch formally appoints and dismisses the Prime Minister and other Ministers. The Prime Minister is chosen through negotiation between parliament party leaders, not by popular vote.
Recently investment has been made in building road and rail links between Copenhagen and Malmö and, Sweden, Zealand and Funen. The Copenhagen-Malmö port was formed between the two cities as a common port.
The main rail operator is Danske Statsbaner. Cophenhagen also has a small metro system and an extensive electrified suburban railway network.
There are ferry links to the Faroe Islands, Norway, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Sweden.
